A clearly superior Irish team played a weakened England off the park in a highly entertaining game today.
None of the Irish players kept possession for too long, making the ball do the work and maximizing their one-man advantage. Emilio scored the first goal when he accelerated away from two defenders and slipped the ball into the corner of the net.
Joshua made it 2-o before half time.
England made a brief recovery after the break and might have cut the Irish lead but Ludo's shot came back off the post and English heads went down. Luca Cerri chipped a ball over the English defense and Emilio scored again to make it 3-0. Joshua got his second goal too when a neat turn left him with just the goalkeeper to beat.
Excellent performances by many of the Irish team, especially Leo and Andrea.

Spain 6-3 France

Sacre bleu! World Champions Spain let France come at them but then hit them repeatedly on the break and in the end cast them aside with little difficulty. Marco opened the scoring and the second goal was the result of a neat combination between Alessio, Marco and Francesco S.
Sciotti struck again when Francesco G lost the ball in midfield. Les blues finally got it together and pulled one back before half time when Robin passed to Giovanni and he played in Francesco G.
Spain crushed the slim French hopes in the second half with two quick goals from Marco and Sam Cole, both laid on by Francesco S.
Francesco G set up Giovanni for a goal but Sam Cole restored the four goal margin and Francesco G's final goal did nothing to change the result.

Ambrit Girls 2 - 2 Deutsche Schule

Buona prestazione delle ragazze sul campo della Deutsche Schule, anche se il finale è un po' amaro per le nostre, che vengono riacciuffate sul 2-2 dopo essere state in vantaggio per 2-0.
L'Ambrit parte bene, con Camilla sicura tra i pali e Cosima in attacco. A centrocampo il trio Sonia-Julia-Allegra e in difesa Isabella. Si corrono pochi rischi e sul finale di primo tempo Cosima riesce a trovare lo spunto e la forza di mettere in rete una palla non trattenuta dal portiere avversario.
Nel secondo tempo l'Ambrit continua a gestire bene il gioco, bersagliando la porta tedesca con regolarità, ma il portiere nega il raddoppio in più di un'occasione con grande bravura. Finalmente un bel tiro teso di Camilla s'insacca nell'angolo, dopo una serie ripetuta di belle azioni.
A questo punto finisce la partita dell'Ambrit e inizia un'altra partita, in cui la concentrazione scende vistosamente, e le tedesche - che notoriamente non mollano mai - prendono fiducia. Isabella concede un rigore alle avversarie, ma Cosima lo neutralizza parando un tiro centrale.
Poi un altro paio di incertezze e di black-out mandano in rete la squadra di casa, che evita una sconfitta che sembrava inevitabile.
Complessivamente si è vista una buona squadra, ma ci sono ancora dei particolari da migliorare. Il punteggio può essere considerato soddisfacente, considerando anche che la Deutsche Schule schierava ragazze di età fino al terzo liceo...

Una bella prova di forza dell'Inghilterra, che si presenta subito come la squadra da battere in questo torneo. La formazione assemblata da capitan Felix ha annientato la Germania, pur brava a dialogare e a passarsi la palla, grazie a una tripletta di Ludo, abile a sfruttare gli assist di Oliver, motore della squadra.

Qualcosa da rivedere invece sul mercato di Alex, tradito dagli uomini su cui ha puntato. Bravo e sfortunato Mattia, che ha provato a segnare da ogni posizione...

Peccato non aver vinto un torneo che era alla portata dell'Ambrit!

Questa è la prima cosa che viene in mente dopo aver assistito alle partite disputate dai ragazzi di prima media... La formazione messa in campo dal mister ha infatti annientato la Castelli e la Marymount prima di approdare in semifinale.

A quel punto qualcosa si è perso: la fiducia prima di tutto. Chiuso il primo tempo in vantaggio per 3-2, l'Ambrit si è fatta rimontare - complice qualche decisione arbitrale che ha seminato un po' di nervosismo - e addirittura superare. all'ultimo minuto un rigore ha dato la possibilità del pareggio: ma il portiere avversario è stato molto bravo a negare il gol al nostro bomber. peccato.

Ireland 3-3 Italy

Fighting against former world champions Italy, not to mention a hostile referee, Ireland pulled off a historic result and gained their first points of the new Championship.
Ireland went into the lead when Joshua MacCroppenstadt (known as Paddy to his friends) wormed his way through a somewhat static Italian defense. Ireland held onto the lead until just before half-time, when Italy drew level with a fierce and accurate shot from Max. Ireland's lead was restored however when Luca O'Cerri struck.
Italy drew level again in the second half when Max drove a corner at Danilo O'Cressman and the ball was fumbled over the line. A pity for O'Cressman, who had a good game all round.
Italy then piled on the pressure and Simone put them 3-2 ahead and then hit the post (as usual).
It looked all over for the Irish but, urged on by Trapattoni from the sidelines, they put in one final effort which then paid off. A kind ball fell to MacCroppenstadt and he tucked it away to send the Irish home happy.

Teachers 5-2 Manchester City

After winning the Autumn Intramural Tournament, Manchester City lined out against the teachers with big hopes of another success. However, with fantastic assistance from Antoine, Alessio and Lorenzo, the teachers prevailed yet again and asked the question... "can any of the student teams beat them this year?"

Mr Calento was first onto the scoresheet again with another one of his 1-meter specials. Mr Alessandro followed up with a well-struck shot and all seemed easy for the teachers. Then Jonathan attacked down the right and latched on to a pass from Max. Mr Corcoran, too slow to come out, then nearly had his head taken off by Jonathan's shot and Luca dV was on hand to pop in the rebound.

In the second half, Luca dV pulled another one back, fooling Antoine with a deft flick. But the teachers then began to pass the ball and Mr Corcoran swapped a couple of passes with Mr Calento and slotted home the third. Mr Midgley was rewarded for a lot of hard work when he forced a fourth goal and Alessio capped a fine performance with the fifth.

Despite a spectacular opening goal from Antoine, Grade 7 finally succumbed to the teachers in the third 'tempo' when the scoreline shot up from 1-1 to 6-1.

Antoine had woken up the teachers in the first 'tempo' when he drifted wide to the left and unleashed an unstoppable shot past Mr Corcoran. Mr Antonio soon equalised though when he cut the ball in at the near post following a mazy dribble past three defenders.

The scoreline remained unchanged then for 15 minutes, thanks largely to a string of fantastic saves from Player of the Match Danilo Cressman.

But then Mr Guarnieri's goal opened the floodgates, Mr Calento completed his hat-trick, Mr Midgley made it 5-1 and Mr Hough added a sixth.

Despite a late goal from Luca, Ambrit ran out of time and couldn't catch their opponents having been down 3-2 at half-time.
Ambrit had gone ahead early on with Francesco Sciotti's opening goal following a neat one-two with Oliver. But the Germans countered and forced a good save from Ale. They then equalised with an unchallenged header and went ahead when Ambrit failed to close down a shooting situation in time. Ale made another good save then and Ambrit pulled it back to 2-2 when Francesco G turned in a quick Sciotti corner but, minutes later, a loose pass from Ale let the home side in for a third goal.
Francesco G then earned and wasted a penalty and Ambrit were a goal down at half time.
Sciotti equalised early in the second half following a long run past three opponents and a lovely left-foot shot. But an own-goal by Ludo a few minutes later put the Germans back in the driving seat and Ambrit's marking became slack. DSR took advantage and went 6-3 up. Ambrit's last ray of hope came from Luca when he scored a rare but valuable goal.

Ambrit Boys 7 - 2 Vigna Pia

Some good saves early on from Ale in goal gave Ambrit the chance to find their feet and stroll eventually to a nonchalent win over neighbours Vigna Pia.

Francrsco Sciotti scored two almost identical goals following through passes from Oliver and Francesco Gallo added a third before half time, the assist coming from Oliver again.

Sciotti made it 4-0 before Vigna Pia made a tentative try to get back into the game with two quick goals, but Ambrit moved up a gear and scored three more before the end; Oliver (2) Ludo added their names to the scoresheet.

Overall Ambrit's display was competent but they will need some stiffer challenges if they are to prepare adequately for next May's tournament in Garda.

Manchester City fulfilled all expectations and swept aside the timid challenge of Arsenal, who seemed intimidated by their opponents' reputations and failed to take the early chances presented to them.
Jonathan opened the scoring, positioning himself intelligently, wide on the right. Alessio had a shot at the other end but it was high and wide and then Arsenal, learning nothing from earlier, left Jon free again on the right. Max found him again and and he doubled City's lead.
Max himself made it 3-0 before half time and Arsenal never recovered, City even missing a penalty when Ale saved Andrea's attempt.

Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea

A bad first half was saved by two goals from Giovanni and a better second half saw Chelsea desperately trying to avoid elimination but their attempts were ultimately futile.

The first chance fell to Alex dF when he connected with his head to a Francesco corner, but Ale dB made a fantastic save.

Arsenal then struck on the break, Mattia's ball setting up Giovanni and Giovanni then doubled Arsenal's lead after a flowing passing move involving three team-mates.

In the second half, Sam Cole's strong probing runs down the right tested the Gunners' defence and Sam might have scored when he had a one on one against the goalkeeper but he pulled his shot wide. Alex dF then pulled a goal back for the Blues and Sam C almost equalised from a corner when his header struck the post.

St George's Tournament

A major inquest is underway into the state of soccer at Ambrit after they sent four teams to St George's but, for the first time in years, came home without a trophy.

The G8 boys crashed ou

t of the semi-final on penalties, the Girls 'A' team lost their semi-final too, the Girls' 'B' team were third and the G7 boys did best of all, winning their group but losing the final to New School.

The first half belonged to United and they should have gone in ahead at half time. Instead, United weathered the storm and progressed to the final.

Mattia created the first chance when he stepped inside his marker and unleashed a fierce shot that crashed back off the bar. Simone then put Oli through with a lovely pass but his captain wasted this excellent chance and then repeated the performance when Simone put him through again. City countered and Andrea turned in Max's corner: 1-0.

Oliver equalised in the second half with a nice shot from the right but the game was won with a fantastic goal from Jonathan. Controlling a difficult ball on the touch line, he ghosted past his marker and scored with a beautifully-judged shot over the goalkeeper.

GIRLS FINAL: Rangers 2 - 2 Celtic

Dopo aver dominato il girone di qualificazione, il Rangers viene "sopreso" dall'ottima performance del Celtic, capace di recuperare le avversarie, andate in vantaggio per due volte - con le sorelle terribili Giulia e Camilla - e riacciuffare il pareggio con Emma (2 gol e Player of the Match).
In realtà il Celtic ha avuto l'occasione di portare a casa addirittura il trofeo, ma ha sprecato un paio di ghiotte occasioni, a tu per tu con il portiere avversario.
Solida la prestazione in campo delle due insegnanti - Ms. Pringle e Ms. Johansson - che hanno reso molto equilibrato il match, con continui ribaltamenti di fronte e molto spettacolo.
Diverse ragazze hanno meritato dei punti per la loro prestazione, ma come spesso accade, i giudici sono stati abbastanza concordi nel premiare in particolare quattro giocatrici meritevoli.

Manchester City 3-1 Liverpool

Liverpool bowed out of the tournament tamely as Manchester City recorded another victory to finish top in the group stages of the competition.
A well-struck shot by Max and a header from Alex off a Max throw-in saw City changing sides with a two goal lead.
Robin's determination in all areas of the pitch earned him a second-half goal when he linked up with Ludo but Liverpool were unable to force an equaliser. Jonathan capped another fine performance with the winning goal halfway through the second half.

SGES 5 - Ambrit 2 (girls)

Una secca sconfitta per la squadra delle ragazze Ambrit, ancora contro St. George's, ancora in amichevole. Il punteggio non rispecchia realmente il gioco espresso dalle due squadre, ma va accettato come una lezione da imparare: nel calcio vince chi segna gol, non chi gioca meglio!
L'Ambrit - infatti- ha creato gioco e occasioni, ma non è riuscita a concretizzare (specie nel secondo tempo) bloccata da una difesa ben disposta e organizzata (la nostra ex, Asia, è stata quasi insuperabile). Al contrario la St. George's, pur non essendo mai arrivata palla al piede davanti al nostro portiere, ha segnato molto da fuori area, sfruttando bene gli spazi concessi dai nostri centrocampisti. Peccato...

Nel primo tempo la squadra ha retto bene, spinta da Cosima e Allegra, segnando un gol con una bella girata di Lavinia che si è insaccata all'incrocio (il gol è stato prontamente dedicato a... Cesare). Ha subito però ben tre reti-fotocopia, da fuori, su cui Livia non è riuscita a intervenire. La squadra del secondo tempo ha creato maggiori occasioni, ma non ha trovato gli spazi giusti, poiché le avversarie hanno difeso il 3-1 e aspettato di colpire in contropiede. Nel finale, dopo altre due reti subite da fuori, Camilla ha realizzato il secondo gol, su assist di Julia. Troppo poco per una squadra che a maggio prossimo vuole puntare a vincere la Mediterranean Cup, ma comunque un'esperienza che deve servire.

Chelsea 2-1 Bolton

Bolton, already eliminated before this game, played with pride and determination and almost caused an upset.

They won a free-kick early on and Francesco Sciotti stepped up confidently to smash it past Leo.

But the lead didn't last long; from a throw-in, Alex dF volleyed the ball home from close range and the teams changed ends at 1-1.

The second half was even and tense, with Danilo making a series of saves, mainly from Francesco Gallo. Bolton almost hung on but were finally undone when Alex made a mazy run past three defenders and slipped the ball to the far post where Sam C tucked it in.

Rangers 3 - 0 Celtic

Una partita senza grande importanza tra due squadre già qualificate per la finale (si giocherà giovedì prossimo 17 Novembre), utile solo per le statistiche e le varie classifiche di torneo. Il Celtic si è presentato in campo con numerose defezioni (2 giocatrici in meno e Ms. Johansson tra i pali).

Poche emozioni quindi, e poco equilibrio in campo: le Rangers hanno potuto gestire con comodità il gioco, creare molte occasioni da rete con la coppia delle "sorelle terribili" (2 gol Camilla, 1 gol Giulia) e sono state molto brave nella fase difensiva, bloccando tutti i tentativi di ripartenza con l'esperienza di Ms. Pringle e la rivelazione di Valeria "muro" Muratori.

Sulla sponda Celtic, nonostante il grande sforzo di Emma, Livia, Dalia e Lavinia, poco si è potuto fare per evitare una sconfitta già scritta dai numeri in campo. L'ingresso tardivo di Allegra ha solo in parte rivitalizzato la partita. Speriamo che giovedì prossimo il Celtic sappia dare maggiore battaglia per la conquista del primo Intramural della stagione.

St George's Boys 0-0 Ambrit Boys

In this 11-a-side encounter on the grass at St George's, Ambrit suffered heavy pressure in the first half but turned things around in the second half and almost stole the game at the end when Antoine had a chance to score.

The first half was tough but Ambrit defended well. Ale made a couple of fine saves and Alex, Ludo, Felix and Luca tracked their opponents faithfully and Leo had a great game protecting the defence. However, in the first half Ambrit created little going forward, instead wasting possession with too many aimless passes in midfield.

But the second half was a different story. Oliver woke up and started to hit earlier, more accurate passes and Francesco S and Francesco G combined well with him. An Oliver pass put Simone through with only the goalkeeper to beat but his shot on the volley trickled just wide.

But St George's kept attacking and forced three more excellent saves from Ale. Ambrit were quick to break though and an early pass from defence sent Antoine through on the goalkeeper. He delayed his shot too long though and his shot was deflected by a defender just as the final whistle souonded.

Arsenal 3-0 Manchester Utd

A rampant Giovanni blasted in three goals, decided the game and sent a clear message to everyone that Arsenal is the team to beat in this term's Intramural Championship.

Giovanni opened the scoring after 6 minutes and followed up with a second two minutes later, controlling the ball, rounding the goalkeeper and gunning the ball into the top corner.

Simone had chances to reopen the game but shot wide and Oliver's 'goal' from a restart was disallowed because play had not re-started. Giovanni could have bagged another goal or two before half time and Tim was close too with a lob just over the bar.

Giovanni came out in the second half with all guns still blazing. A fierce shot crashed down off the bar (was it in?) but he did score a third goal later on. Oliver had numerous chances and numerous misses, none more glaring than the last one which he missed from 1 meter out!

Vigna Pia 5 - 3 Ambrit

In another closely-fought derby match yesterday, Vigna Pia 2000 (vice-champions of Italy) were too strong for Ambrit's team and won by a comfortable two-goal margin.

Ambrit went into the lead early on when Luca Cerri rounded his marker and scored with a good left-foot shot into the corner but Paolo, Andrea and Gabriele scored three goals before half time, due mainly to some terrible marking and undisciplined positioning from Ambrit's players.

In the second half, a neat exchange between Mattia and Zahir allowed the former to bring the score back to 3-2 but Vigna Pia pulled away again and were leading 5-2 with just a few minutes to go. Mattia scored a consolation goal near the end but Vigna Pia deserved their win.

Inspired by Milan against Lecce last week, Chelsea mounted a second half comeback today and turned a 0-3 deficit into a 3-3 draw.
United were dominant early on, with Oliver's strength and passing enough to break down a flimsy Chelsea midfield. Simone took advantage and scored the first goal with a shot from the left. Simone's throw-in shortly afterwards found Oli on a well-timed run and his header looped over Francesco and in for the second.
Francesco came out of goal and started to wake up his team but Simone scored again to make it 3-0. When Ale dG pulled one back with a well-taken chance, a glimmer of hope appeared for Chelsea and Felix fanned the flames by scoring a second after good work on the left from Ale and Francesco.
Could they get anoher? Yes! Ale dF struck again after a defensive blunder from Oliver and Man Utd were left hanging on in the end.

Liverpool 5 - 1 Bolton

Il Liverpool conquista la sua prima vittoria in campionato e spegne brutalmente tutte le speranze del Bolton per il passaggio del turno con un sonoro 5-1, che non lascia scampo al Bolton di Francesco S, oggi troppo nervoso e - come suo solito - individualista.
Il risultato è stato generato dal fatto che il Liverpool ha giocato da squadra - passando la palla, rispettando i ruoli in campo, aiutando i compagni - mentre nel Bolton come squadra non ha funzionato quasi nulla, anzi ognuno era pronto a criticare i compagni, ritenuti indegni o incapaci.
Trascinatore del Liverpool oggi è stato Ludovico (Player of the Match), che ha segnato una tripletta, con Marco e Robin (un gol ciascuno) molto mobili e l'ormai solidissimo David a gestire la difesa con bravo Danyal.
Tra i pali del Bolton Danilo ha fatto ciò che ha potuto; l'unica rete del Bolton è stata di Francesco.

Ambrit 3-2 Vigna Pia

Ambrit's 8th graders swept aside the challenge of Vigna Pia in a first half of fluid football and then ceded the stage to the 6th and 7th graders in a messier second half.
Francesco Sciotti almost opened the scoring early on but his shot struck the bar. Oliver (Man of the Match) directed operations in midfield and, when Francesco S tried to shoot on the turn, Oli was there to hammer the rebound past an immobile goalkeeper.
Confidence flooded the team and the passing was smooth. Robin passed from the left and found Francesco Gallo coming on to the ball and his shot was nonchalent but deadly: 2-0. Francesco struck again to send Ambrit in 3-0 at half time.
Vigna Pia kept playing football too and they pulled back two goals in the second half. And had it not been for Alex Humpert, it might have been much worse.

Le Ambrit Girls sono tornate!

Una bellissima vittoria riporta trofei e morale al posto giusto, cioè sulla bacheca dell'Ambrit!
Le ragazze Ambrit sono state fantastiche per tutto il torneo, combattendo con grinta e tecnica contro squadre più grandi e "navigate" di loro.

Vediamo come si è svolto il tutto:

Ambrit-St. George's Red 2-2
Nella prima partita l'Ambrit si è trovata di fronte - nuovamente - le ragazze della St. George's: non era un impegno facile, dopo la brutta sconfitta di venerdì. Ma l'Ambrit scende in campo con una grinta diversa e qualche innesto fondamentale: in particolare Isabella a centrocampo, Chiara in difesa ed Emma sulla fascia destra. Proprio quest'ultima porta in vantaggio subito l'Ambrit con un potente diagonale, non trattenuto dal portiere. L'ambrit non smette la sua pressione, cerca il raddoppio con insistenza, ma il 2-0 arriva solo nel secondo tempo col meritatissimo gol di Julia. La vittoria sembra a portata di mano, ma alcuni cambi e una certa disattenzione permettono - a un minuto dalla fine - alla St. George's di trovare prima il 2-1 poi addirittura il 2-2, con due tiri dalla distanza, troppo alti per la nostra piccola formidabile Livia.

Ambrit - USYS A 5-0
L'Ambrit non si prede di morale, sa che per passare in semifinale serve un risultato importante contro la squadra A della USYS e va in campo nel secondo match con personalità e convinzione: il 5-0 finale ne è una più che ampia dimostrazione. 4 reti di Camilla e 1 di Allegra e il totale controllo del campo. Il mister è visibilmente soddisfatto e la semifinale è raggiunta.

Ambrit - St. George's Blue 1-0
La semifinale contro la St. George's B doveva essere una partita facile sulla carta, ma l'Ambrit la affronta con poca grinta e per tutto il primo tempo non fa altro che un possesso palla sterile e senza risultati concreti. Nel secondo tempo l'Ambrit spinge di più e finalmente passa con un tiro potente di Camilla. La partita finisce 1-0: si va in finale.

Ambrit - USYS B 1-0
Nella finale l'Ambrit affronta la più forte delle sue avversarie, sia tecnicamente, sia -soprattutto - fisicamente: la squadra di Napoli USYS. È qui che le nostre ragazze compiono il loro capolavoro.
L'Ambrit prende da subito in mano il gioco, grazie a un centrocampo formidabile formato da Julia, che imposta in gioco, Sonia ed Emma che spingono/coprono sulle fasce e Isabella che fa da diga in mezzo al campo. Le occasioni sono tutte per la nostra squadra, ma passare è durissimo, perché le Napoletane fanno valere il fisico. Sul finale del primo tempo, una palla che sembrava persa viene miracolosamente recuperata da Camilla, che si beve il difensore e spara un tiro che s'infila sotto la traversa!!! (vedere il video per credere!).
Nel secondo tempo la pressioni dell'USYS cresce e l'Ambrit viene schiacciata indietro, ma la difesa di Allegra e Chiara non si muove di un millimetro, e l'unico vero pericolo è un tiro destinato a infilarsi all'angolino, che Livia manda in angolo in tuffo: applausi a scena aperta!
Quando manca una manciata di minuti, l'USYS compie un'ingeiutà difensiva e regale un rigore all'Ambrit: è l'occasione per chiudere il match definitivamente, ma il capitano si tira indietro e sul dischetto va Allegra, che spara sul portiere. Peccato.
La partita si chiude con il primo successo stagionale dell'Ambrit, capace di rialzarsi, di lottare e di credere nel gioco di squadra. Bravissima Julia a gestire il centrocampo, granitica Isabella che ha lottato come un gladiatore, rassicurante Livia tra i pali, molto efficaci Emma e Sonia sulle corsie laterali e micidiale Camilla come terminale offensivo. Il mister ringrazia anche tutte le altre ragazze che, quando sono andate in campo, hanno dato il loro meglio.

Ambrit has a future...and it's GOOD!

La squadra femminile Ambrit del Primary si aggiudica il primo torneo dell'anno e conferma la buona tradizione della scuola. Le ragazze allenate da Ms. Johansson hanno sconfitto le pari età della St. George's in una finale ricca di emozioni.

Arsenal 3 - 4 Manchester City

Ancora una partita molto combattuta, con tanti cambiamenti di fronte, al termine della quale il City riesce a portare a casa i tre punti e si piazza al primo posto solitario in vetta alla classifica.
Le individualità del City compensano ed eguagliano il gioco di squadra dell'Arsenal, ma sul 3-3, quasi allo scadere, il City acciuffa la vittoria con un bel contropiede di Andrea S che anticipa con un pallonetto il portiere in uscita e regala ai suoi il passaggio in semifinale matematico.

Bolton 3 - 2 Man. United

Un'altra partita ricca di tensione emotiva e spettacolo ha deliziato ieri la platea dell'Ambrit.

Contro ogni pronostico il fanalino di coda Bolton, dato 14:1 dai bookmakers inglesi, ha sconfitto la capolista Manchester United, per 3 reti a 2. Le reti del Bolton sono state firmate da Emilio e Joshua, più uno sfortunato autogol; per lo United in rete Mattia e Oliver.

Il Bolton ha giocato una partita di slancio e di cuore e possiamo dire che abbia meritato la vittoria: le parate di Danilo (oggi Player of the Match), la corsa e il pressing di Emilio, la difesa a oltranza di Francisco e di Kei, lo spirito di capitan Sciotti hanno compiuto il miracolo.

Impacciato e poco fluido lo United, con un Oliver non in giornata, un Mattia troppo individualista e con il solo Simone che ha tentato di concludere a rete, trovando peraltro Danilo sempre molto attento.

Non un dramma per lo United, ma una vera boccata di ossigeno per il Bolton, che smuove la classifica e con tre punti può tentare un difficile passaggio alle semifinali, essendo più consapevole dei propri mezzi.

Aberdeen 2 - 2 Rangers

Due gol per parte, una doppietta di Julia, una doppietta di Camilla: pareggio.

Ma la partita è stata molto più di questo...

L'Aberdeen, costretta a fare risultato da una classifica con un solo punto, ha costruito il match sulla difesa e sulle ripartenze di Julia, vero asso nella manica (e oggi Player of the Match). Il Rangers aveva invece la possibilità di amministrare la vetta della classifica senza rischi eccessivi, ma quando non si rischia, ecco che si subisce. La scelta iniziale di mettere Ms. Pringle in porta non ha pagato, perché l'Aberdeen ha chiuiso il primo tempo in vantaggio per 1-0, con una rete inventata da Julia, che dribbla tre avversarie e supera Ms. Pringle in uscita. La diga presieduta da Ms. Westelaken e Beatrice, non cede di un millimetro e si inizia a credere al colpaccio.

Ma nel secondo tempo la partita cambia volto, con l'uscita dai pali di Ms. Pringle, che diventa player basso. Attacco dopo attacco i Rangers guadagnano campo e riescono finalmente a pareggiare con Camilla, pronta a sfruttare un'incertezza - l'unica - della difesa. Nemmeno il tempo di festeggiare, che ancora Julia, direttamente dal dischetto di centrocampo, riporta in vantaggio l'Aberdeen con un tiro violento che supera Valeria. Beatrice and Co. si barricano in difesa, Julia cede fisicamente ed esce tra gli applausi, ma resta il tempo per un'ultima sorpresa: una punizione al limite dell'area, che Camilla sfrutta al meglio e trova un insperato pareggio, che condanna le speranze dell'Aberdeen.

Ambrit Girls 1 - 4 St. George's Girls

Brutto esordio per la squadra delle ragazze Ambrit, capitanata quest'anno da Julia A. La stagione è iniziata con una secca sconfitta subita in casa ad opera della St. George's, che si è presentata in forma e molto compatta. Le nostre ragazze, pur essendo più piccole d'età e con meno esperienza, hanno subito iniziato con grinta, passando in vantaggio con Allegra che ha saputo sfruttare al meglio un'incertezza della difesa avversaria. Subito prima Julia aveva colpito un palo clamoroso su calcio di punizione...

Ben presto però l'Ambrit mostra tutta la sua inesperienza, soprattutto in fase difensiva, subendo un uno-due della squadra ospite: che peccato! Finisce così il primo tempo, con molto gioco dell'Ambrit e pochi, pochissimi risultati.

Nel secondo tempo le ragazze di Mr. Gianluca entrano in campo decise a recuperare, ma il terzo gol - sull'ennesimo errore difensivo - taglia le gambe a tutti. Le ragazze si scoraggiano e, peggio, iniziano a non passarsi più la palla, a non ragionare più. Sono ormai convinte di uscire sconfitte e il quarto gol è solo per il tabellino, non cambia di una virgola la partita.

Nonostante questo passo falso, ora l'Ambrit ha bisogno di rialzarsi, di riprendere entusiasmo e di giocare con maggiore concentrazione: l'occasione giusta si presenterà tra una settimana, quando all'Ambrit ci sarà il primo torneo RISA annuale.

Orgoglio, grinta, corsa e più concentrazione in campo: ecco gli ingredienti che il Mister cercherà di infondere alla squadra nel prossimo allenamento, in attesa che al gruppo si uniscano anche le assenti di ieri (Chiara ed Emma) e - magari - qualche nuova sorpresa.

Man City 2 - 1 Chelsea

Partita nervosa e vibrante, subito accesa da un funambolico gol di Jonathan che s'insacca alla sinistra dell'incolpevole Felix e porta in vantaggio il City. La reazione del Chelsea è immediata, ma poco efficace: le folate di Francesco, Sam e Alex vengono ben respinte dalla fisicità di Max (oggi Player of the Match) e dal lavoro di copertura di Nawin e Alex. Nel secondo tempo, dopo molta pressione, il Chelsea trova finalmente il pareggio, direttamente su calcio d'angolo: la parabola arcuata di Leo, soprende tutti, anche l'arbitro che - causa la rete bucata - stava per dare una rimessa dal fondo.

Quando la partita sembrava avviata verso un comodo pareggio, ecco che sull'ennesima ripartenza il City trova il gol del definitivo 2-1 con una gran botta di Max da fuori.

Ambrit Boys 3 - 3 St George's Boys

A typically robust encounter saw the lead changing hands a few times and a draw was probably a fair result.

Ambrit drew first blood of the year when Francesco Gallo passed to Oli. His rifled shot/pass was turned in by an alert Francesco Sciotti.

Oli hit the bar in the first half too but St George's equalised before half time.

In the second half, Ambrit began brightly again but then fell behind to a messy goal. Francesco Gallo scored to draw the teams level and then Oliver scored with a beautiful glancing header off a well-struck Ludo corner.

But Ambrit ran out of steam in the end and had to settle for a draw.

Arsenal 4 - 0 Liverpool

Without their captain, Liverpool struggled to maintain any shape in the first few minutes and suffered an early setback when Ale dB tore through their defence and poked a sly shot past a surprised goalkeeper.

Ale should have doubled the score soon after but his shot from 2m out was well saved by Danyal in goal.

Ale wasted another chance shortly afterwards and Giovanni hit the post, leaving Liverpool ample hope for a second half comeback.

It nearly happened immediately when Marco played Robin through with a lovely pass but Robin shot straight at Tommaso. Then, just as Ludo entered the fray, Giovanni struck the second goal and Liverpool heads went down. A rampant Luca broke up attack after attack and scored a lovely fourth goal just after Zahir had rolled in a third.

Celtic 0 - 0 Aberdeen

Sprazzi di buon gioco, in una partita equilibrata seppure giocata dall'Aberdeen con un vantaggio di 7 giocatori a 5 contro il Celtic, in cui l'assenza di Ms. Johansson sta pesando più del previsto. Alcune buone occasioni create da Julia & Co., ma ben neutralizzate da Olivia e Livia P (oggi Player of the Match) in porta. La squadra di Julia T - capitano assente - ha saputo organizzarsi bene e ha giocato puntando sulla fisicità di Allegra, Emma e Livia. L'Aberdeen ha avuto alcune occasioni, ma deve migliorare nel controllo della palla, specie sotto rete.

Un'altra spettacolare partita - anche se poco equilibrata - ha intrattenuto il numeroso pubblico dell'Ambrit quest'oggi. Il City, sconfitto nella partita d'esordio, si rialza e rifila una dura lezione al Bolton, ancora a secco di vittorie. Uno scatenato Jonathan (oggi Player of the Match) mette in seria difficoltà la difesa avversaria, con affondi ripetuti sulla fascia e percussioni centrali, fino al gol del vantaggio, bissato da una sventola di Max, che fa 2-0 prima dell'intervallo.
Nella ripresa il Bolton prova una reazione, grazie alle iniziative di Emilio, Francesco e Joshua, riesce ad accorciare le distanze col capitano, ma la superiorità del City non dà scampo ai pur bravi Kei e Danilo. Prima Luca, poi Andrea mettono la sicuro il risultato - in maniera anche troppo severa - e lasciano nei guai il Bolton, in fondo alla classifica.
Da sottolineare la buona prestazione di Tristan, in difesa, che ha bloccato da solo diverse ripartenze del Bolton.

Man Utd 4 - 2 Liverpool

Despite turning out with only 6 players, Liverpool dominated large parts of the game and almost took something from the game.
Robin was lively early on and forced an excellent save from Antoine. At the other end, Simone set up Mattia but he shot over. Ludo created and missed a chance and then Oli scored off a Mattia pass and then set up Simone but the score stayed at 1-0 at half time.
Ludo attacked immediately from the re-start and fired an angled shot which Antoine savde well but Marco followed up and equalised.
But Mattia now began to come into the game more and when he set up Simone, United went back into the lead. Mattia then scored himself from an Oliver pass and United were cruising. But Liverpool fought back again, Marco scoring a second goal with a delicious lob after a quickly-taken throw-in. United surged forward again. Simone hit the bar after a good run and then hit the post when he should have scored, but Oliver followed up and put he game beyond the reach of the Merseysiders.

After yesterday's masterpiece, today's game was a mere sketch and Chelsea won without being very convincing.
A first half goal by Francesco, following up an Andrea O shot which was well parried by Zahir in goal, and a second half goal by Sam Cole - a long range effort that took the keeper by surprise - were enough to keep the Londoners on full points. Man Utd 3 - 1 Man City

Thursday lunchtime was lit up by one of the most exciting matches of the year as the two Manchester teams clashed in a game that was fierce, even and full of incident and some cracking performances from Mattia (Utd) and Jonathan (City) in midfield showed that Ambrit will be a force to be reckoned with for the next three years.
Oliver opened the scoring early on with a fine shot and then sent Simone in for a good chance shortly afterwards. Simone however opted for a lob when a simpler solution was wanted and the chance was wasted. City came back into the game and their attacks were rewarded when Luca dV popped up to sweep a loose ball into the net.
Mattia tested Christian shortly afterwards but the goalkeeper made a good save and Andrea made two chances for himself at the other end, one of which was saved by a positive Antoine in goal while the other went over.
The captains both began the second half brightly, Max forcing a save from Antoine and Oliver hitting a good shot which Christian could only tap down to the waiting Simone: 2-1.
Simone continued to make good runs down the right and he whacked a good shot off the bar; Andrea responded at the other end with another shot but his aim was high again.
City poured forward and Antoine was forced to make another good save from Max. And then it happened... confusion in the United goalmouth.... the ball deflected once... twice.... and then to the feet of Luca dV with the goalkeeper already beaten.... the whole school held its breath as they waited for Luca to tap the ball in.... and then the whole school watched as the ball went wide. Until then, Luca had played a good game but won't forgive himself for the miss.
With City now spent, Simone sent Mattia through on Christian in goal. Mattia went around him, Christian took him down and was sent off. Oliver scored from the resulting free kick to round off a deserved victory. BEST PLAYER POINTS: Mattia 8, Antoine 6, Jonathan 5, Simone 2

Rangers 1 - 0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen slumped to their second defeat of the new season against a rampant Rangers as Miss Pringle took an early stranglehold on the midfield and never let go.
The first of a series of chances fell to Camilla but she shot wide. Despite being under the cosh for most of the first half however, Aberdeen did come close to a goal when Joana struck the post.
In the second half, Camilla sent a good shot just wide of the left post and was frustrated again later on when Miss Westelaken made a good save. Rangers reward arrived when Giulia pounced on loose ball and swept a cool left foot shot past Miss Westelaken.
Beatrice, Olivia and Ginevra impressed in defense while Sonia and the Espositi sisters dominated the attacking moves.

Chelsea 3 - 2 Liverpool

Un'altra bella partita, la più avvincente finora, è statadisputata oggi dal Chelsea vittorioso sul Liverpool per 3-2. Di fronte i gemelli Gallo, capitani e avversari di grandissimo livello. Ma a decidere il risultato sono stati i giocatori che - forse - non ti aspetti: Marco, esordiente, autore della doppietta dei Reds e Sam, autore di un'ottima partita e di un gol con la maglia dei Blues.

Insomma: si preannuncia un campionato aperto e combattuto come al solito. Solida prestazione anche di David in difesa (insieme a Marco Player of the Match), di Francesco G a tutto campo e di Andrea O in difesa.

Buon esordio in campionato per l'Arsenal capitanato da Alessandro, che sconfigge il Bolton per due reti a zero (Tim e Mattia i marcatori) e porta a casa i primi tre punti in palio. Approfittando della superiorità numerica (pesante l'assenza di Joshua nel Bolton), l'Arsenal ha macinato buon gioco con Giovanni, Alessio, Mattia e Tim, bloccando le iniziative di Francesco ed Emilio grazie a un Idriss e un Tommaso implacabili e al solito Luca, sempre puntuale nelle chiusure.

Ottimo inizio per la squadra del Celtic, che si aggiudica i primi 3 punti in palio con una prestazione solida e convincente. La formazione capitanata da Julia T. ha dovuto rinunciare in avvio proprio al suo capitano e a Priscilla, entrambe infortunate, ma ha saputo puntare su una maggiore organizzazione e sulla grande determinazione delle sue giocatrici.
Determinante è stata la prestazione di Livia tra i pali, che ha mostrato coraggio e tempismo, beccandosi anche una micidiale pallonata da Julia A, sempre bravissima ma troppo sola oggi.
La squadra di Beatrice ha tenuto bene, con Ms. Westelaken in porta, ma nulla ha potuto di fronte alle progressioni di Allegra, Emma e Lavinia, ben coadiuvate da Ms. Johannson.

Una novità destinata forse a cambiare il volto dell'intero torneo, il più amato dagli studenti.

Grazie alle tre insegnanti che hanno accettato di mettersi in gioco e rischiare in prima persona, anche quest'anno avrà inizio il torneo femminile, che fino all'ultimo sembrava destinato a saltare per mancanza di giocatrici.

Ambrit vs Puglia A 3-3 (6-5 dopo i calci di rigore).

Grande delusione nel team Ambrit, dopo una massacrante semifinale persa ai rigori contro il team Puglia A. Le squadre si sono affrontate a viso aperto, con grande equilibrio e hanno dato tutto, ma ancora una volta i calci di rigore si rivelano fatali per la nostra squadra.

Il match è stato inizialmente dominato dall'Ambrit, che dopo una bella traversa colpita da Oscar, trova il vantaggio con Ale, defilato sulla sinistra, che inganna il difensore con un sombrero e infila il portiere con un bel sinistro. Ancora alcune occasioni per l'Ambrit, che però nel suo momento migliore subisce il pareggio in contropiede.

Nella ripresa i nostri sono stanchi e subiscono un contropiede - ancora una volta - che fa 2-1. Siamo a una manciata di minuti dalla fine e i ragazzi sembrano sfiduciati; ma ecco che un colpo di fortuna viene in nostro aiuto: un tiro di Ale non viene trattenuto dal portiere e finisce in rete, 2-2 e tempi supplementari.

Nemmeno il tempo di esultare e la Puglia va di nuovo in vantaggio con una bella azione personale del numero 8, che salta tre difensori e appoggia sul palo più lontano dove Johannes non può arrivare. Ora è veramente durissima. A due minuti dalla fine ancora Ale, con una tripletta incredibile, trova il tiro da fuori che s'infila sotto la traversa e fa 3-3.

Purtroppo questa bellissima ed esaltante rimonta non ha un lieto fine: ancora una volta, dopo la finale in Portogallo, l'Ambrit non trova la concentrazione giusta ai calci di rigore. Su cinque rigori solo Ale e Oscar trovano il gol...

Rimane la finale per il 3-4 posto da giocare domattina contro la Lombardia A, sconfitta ench'essa ai rigori dalla Lombardia B.

Bellaria (Rimini). L'Ambrit è qui a Bellaria a giocarsi il titolo nazionale Anspi 2011 di calcio a 7, nella categoria preadolescenti, con la formidabile squadra del '96.

Il torneo è di ottimo livello, poiché sono presenti le squadre vincitrici dei vari tornei regionali e il ritmo delle partite è massacrante: solo oggi abbiamo giocato 4 partite!

I risultati sono stati molto buoni, e l'Ambrit è a un passo dalla qualificazione alle semifinali.

With help from the 7th graders, Ambrit teachers swept aside the last challenge of the year when they buried 8G convincingly. Two goals each from Francesco Sciotti and Ludo Gallo and fine performances from Alex and Leo at the back were enough to supplement the towering presence of Mr Guarnieri at th eback and a busy Mr Ronin in the wing. Corcoran in goal kept a clean sheet nut was deservedly cautioned by referee Calento for his constant and ill-disciplined protests.

In a difficult match against Intramural champions Brazil, the teachers were saved by various guests as well as new member of staff, Miss Calento.

Elif, in her last appearance at Ambrit, scored two early goals to put the teachers ahead. Joanna (Player of the Match with Asia) pulled one back before half time but Lena came on for the teachers in the second half and scored a rare goal.

Joanna scored again from a penalty to leave the result in doubt until the last minute but the teachers remain unbeaten this year.

Una partita che in molti hanno definito "una farsa": la sfida che avrebbe dovuto esaltare il pubblico e dare spettacolo in un finale dell'anno incandescente si e' rivelata una vera bufala.
Infatti la compagine degli insegnanti, pronta a combattere e a difendere l'imbattibilita' stagionale, si e' trovata di fronte una formazione monca, priva di Matteo (per assenza) e di tanti altri (Rocco, Gregory, Conner...) per poca voglia... In sostanza gli 8th graders presenti sul campo erano solo in 4, i classici 4 gatti, e gli insegnanti hanno avuto vita molto facile...
Nel secondo tempo gli inserimenti di alcuni 7th graders nella formazione degli studenti ha creato qualche piccolo divertimento in piu', ma la sostanza della partita non e' cambiata.
Speriamo, lunedi' prossimo, di vedere uno spettacolo piu' interessante quando ad affrontarsi saranno gli insegnanti e la 8T. Best player Marco S, che ha evitato alla 8G un punteggio piu' umiliante con una serie di belle parate.

Congratulations to the Grade 7 team who won the Gazzetta Cup qualifying tournament at Tor Sapienza on Sunday afternoon (28 May) after a nail-biting penalty shoot-out finish in the final.

Turkey, attempting to become the first team to complete the arduous Intramural/teachers' Challenge double, clawed their way back into the game fro two goals behind but fell victim to a Calento (snr) strike with just two minutes to play.

Always dangerous, the Turks nonetheless fell behind in the first half when Calento turned in a pass from Nardi.

In the second half, Nardi continued to stamp his authority on the game and crowned a fine performance with an unstoppable shot from the right.

Relaxing, the teachers now gave too much room to Turkey's dangerous attack and Hoffmann took full advantage. Gallo (F) then put him through again and Jakob brought his official goals tally for the year to 74.

After an entertaining game which celebrated the Best Players in the recent Intramural, the game was decided by a single goal scored in the last minute by Leo.

As you would expect, there were numerous good performances and many candidates for Player of the Match.

Darien was as busy as usual in midfield and Camilla too. Aurora, in the first half, played some lovely, measured football. Francesco G was dynamic and creative and Max was his team's engine but the award goes to Line who played in defence and was excellent.

Buoyed up by their semi-final victory over the other grade 8 team, 6C tore into 8T from the start and took a two-goal lead into the second half, a lead that could have been bigger if Darien hadn't been everywhere to tackle, block and save.

The opening goal came from Camilla, a snapshot from way out on the right which took an unsighted Enrico by surprise. The second goal was turned in by Simone after Andrea supplied him with a pinpoint cross. And 6C could have scored a few more, thanks mainly to Player of the Match Julia who was outstanding in midfield.

8T got back into the match quickly in the second half; Marco scored with a long shot and Jakob dribbled three players and then shot home to equalise. Marco put 8T into the lead and all seemed lost for the sixth graders but then Camilla pulled another rabbit out of her capacious hat. Pouncing hungrily on a loose ball, she whacked it with all her might and watched anxiously as it beat Enrico at the near post: 3-3!
6C finished the match strongly; 8T held on for a penalty shoot out which they won with successful penalties from Jakob, Elif, Jade and Marco against 6C's only scoring kick from Simone.

When Matteo Toti scored an early goal, 8G's passage to the final looked assured and there was no hint of the drama to come.

8G continued to dominate the first half but they failed to turn possession into goals. 6C re-organised at half time. Emilio continued to shadow Matteo; Julia and Camilla continued to patrol the midfield, interrupting 8G's play and supplying ball to Andrea. Andrea was now getting forward and, together with Firat, was causing problems to the 8G defense. When Firat received a ball on the right and beat a player, he could have passed to Andrea, Player of the Match Camilla or Julia but he tried to do to much and lost the ball.

But he made up for it later. Following a (controversial) corner kick, Firat received the ball on the edge of the area and blasted a shot past Marco S in goal to take the game into a penalty shoot-out.

Luke saved two penalties, Joanna and Matteo hit the post/bar; Andrea and Firat's goals were enough to bring 6C into the final.

7F 3-3 8T

7F raced into a seemingly unassailable 3-0 lead only to see it disappear when Jakob's long-range goal was deflected past the goalkeeper with the last touch of the game.

Aurora scored the first goal when Max's shot ricocheted off the post, off Darien and then off Aurora. Alex struck the bar shortly afterwards and Francesco S made it 2-0 before half time.

Jakob hit a post early in the second half but Ludo put 7F 3-0 ahead. Francesco pulled one back, then another and then 8T equalised.

7F should have won the game, deserved to win it and almost did. Everyone on their team played well but Player of the Match was Robin.

6C 2 - 0 6D

La 6C è la prima (e unica) 6 grade a qualificarsi per la semifinale del class tournament. Dopo aver fallito il colpaccio contro la 7F, e anche grazie a questa fortunata "seconda chance", la classe di Mr. Corcoran ieri è scesa in campo con la determinazione e la compattezza necessarie per portare a casa la qualificazione. Il gol "a freddo" di Simone al primo minuto ha poi spianato la strada verso l'impresa: la classe di Ms. Duranti ha potuto opporre poca resistenza, con buone prestazioni individuali della difesa (in particolare Jake, Danilo, David e soprattutto Lavinia tra i pali). Quasi allo scadere la 6C ha raddoppiato con una conclusione in mischia di Emilio.

Il secondo tempo ha vissuto lo stesso schema del primo: assedio alla porta protetta egregiamente da Lavinia, con numerose conclusioni di Simone, Julia and co. Vana e frustrata la reazione della 6D, che ha avuto poche occasioni e non ha saputo sfruttarle.

After an early chance had fallen to Luca Cerri, it was Dariush who opened the scoring. Accelerating away from three defenders, he flashed a low shot past James into the corner.

Allegra equalized almost immediately, with a dreath-taking shot that arced high over the despairing fingers of Enrico.

Dariush tried to strike back immediately in a move that was almost a replica of the first goal but this time the ball thundered back off the bar. Then Antoine struck the bar at the other end and Mattia hit the post with a well-timed header: 8T were on the rack!

But then a silly mistake in defense gifted a throw in to 8T and Marco T put the 8th graders ahead.

Jakob and Francesco combined well early in the second half and, when Francesco scored, it seemed that the 6th graders might crumble. But that would have been to reckon without Player of the Match Allegra. With spirit, determination and energy, Allegra fought for every ball, brought her team mates into the game and then scored another goal to leave the outcome in the balance until the last second.

6C 1-1 7F (3-4 after penalties)

An exciting game was lit up by an outstanding goal from Francesco Sciotti. As the ball came over his left shoulder, he angled his body to the right and volleyed the ball in mid-air with his left foot past a helpless Luke who didn't have time to react.

However 6C equalized immediately with a long shot from Simone, straight from the re-start.

Good defending from both teams - especially from Max and from Player of the Match Luke - kept the score to 1-1 and Beatrice's winning kick sent 7F through to the semi-finals and 6C to a play-off against 6D.

Under constant pressure from first to last, Brazil snatched a goal late in the first half and clung tenaciously to the lead right to the final whistle.

In the first half, Camilla was all over the pitch winning balls, tackling, shooting and combining with Carlotta and Julia... but all to no avail. Camilla's shots, and Julia's and Carlotta's, all finished wide or high or blocked.

At the other end, Joanna never stopped running either and, with just two minutes of the first half to play, she sent a pass to Line and her left-footed cross shot got past Hannah and finished in the back of the net.

In the second half, Peru kept up the pressure but their play was more and more disjointed. Asia, Beatrice, Saskia and Aurora formed an impenetrable shield in front of Lavinia and Brazil held off for a famous victory.

In-form Turkey roasted the opposition in the second half of today's final after Italy had been reduced to ten men when Dariush hobbled off with a knee injury.

The first half finished scoreless, with Francesco Gallo providing the main threat on goal. The second half began evenly also but then Arpit's cynical foul on Dariush changed the course of the game. Turkey, already showing a tactical superiority, held their shape and made the extra man count. When referee Corcoran awarded a corner amid Borghese's protests, Francesco laid it back to Firat and his well-struck shot found the corner of the net.

The Turks continued to press and Jakob scored the second, confirming him as the tournament's Top Scorer (18 goals), especially after he added yet another with the last kick of the game off another Firat shot.

Stesso risultato dell'andata, con l'Argentina che sconfigge l'Uruguay di misura e chiude il torneo al terzo, onorevole, posto. La squadra guidata da Clara non dilaga, per merito dell'ottima prova in porta di EmmaH (Player of the Match), che blocca la gran parte delle conclusioni a rete delle argentine e in particolare della sua omonima EmmaZ, di nuovo tra le migliori in campo.

Bella partita, tra due squadre ben organizzate e combattive. Lo squadrone peruviano parte forte e va a segno con Camilla (Player of the Match), che su azione da calcio d'angolo colpisce il palo ed è la prima a cogliere la ribattuta e a metterla dentro. Ancora Camilla sigla il raddoppio con un bel destro non trattenuto dal portiere. L'Argentina prova una reazione, potendo contare sugli ottimi movimenti di Emma e Allegra a centrocampo, e accorcia le distanze con Allegra ed Emma Z.

Nel secondo tempo la musica non cambia: ancora le argentine a combattere con tutte le loro forze, ma ancora le peruviane a infilare la palla in rete; prima con Carlotta e poi con Camilla, che firma la sua personale tripletta e ipoteca il titolo di bomber del campionato. Jakob opened the scoring when a high pas from Emre fooled Danilo and he added a second following misses by Luca dV (wide) and Max (over). Firat made it 3-0 and than Luca dV pulled one back with a tap-in but Jakoob restored the 2-goal advantage when he got the final touch aon a Firat shot.

Ambrit Boys Triumph at Marymount Tournament

Marymount held a soccer tournament for boys on Saturday and Ambrit revved up their preparations for next week's Mediterranean Cup in Lake Garda by coming away with First Place in both the Grade 7/8 AND the Grade 5/6 categories!

GRADE 7 and GRADE 8

The Grade 8 team, eventual winners of the tournament, were clearly superior to their rivals. In each of their four games, they hit a purple patch where their passes were early, crisp, simple and surgically precise, opening up their opponents time and again. Majestically orchestrated by Marco T in midfield, with Dariush and Francesco tireless and inventive and Jakob always dangerous. The defense was solid (Ale Z, Gregorio S, Ale B), Enrico came back into form at just the right moment and Darien was an ace up the sleeve. Comprehensive victories over Marymount (4-0; all goals from Jacob) and Rome International (3-1; Marco T, Dariush, Jakob) set them up for a semi-final against New School (4-2; Francesco T 2, Marco T 2). In the final, an improving Marymount twice came from behind (equalizing two strikes from Jakob) to take the game into extra time. A rapidly tiring Ambrit faced the prospect of a penalty shoot out until Dariush lashed a powerful shot passed Marymount's excellent goalkeeper to wrap up a wonderful victory for Ambrit.

The Grade 7 team drew 2-2 with Rome Int (Francesco Gallo, Francesco Sciotti) and beat New School 1-0 (Oliver) but lost out in their semi-final to Marymount. A big thanks to Carlotta who helped out when needed and was particularly valuable against New School.

Un Match vibrante che lascia grande attesa per la finalissima di quest'anno: Perù e Brasile, infatti, rispettivamente prima e seconda nel torneo, saranno le squadre che si affronteranno nella finale!
Il Brasile inizia fortissimo, con determinazione e concentrazione, arrivando al meritato vantaggio con un tiro deviato di Line (oggi Player of the Match), che sorprende l'incolpevole Hannah. Dopo poco Joanna sigla il raddoppio con un tiro potente e ravvicinato: le peruviane rimangono attonite e per la prima volta nel torneo devono inseguire! La partita si preannuncia infuocata, ma subito arriva la svolta del match: Joanna, fino ad allora una vera spina nel finaco della difesa peruviana, si infortuna e lascia il campo. Inizia un'altra partita, 7 contro 8, in cui il Brasile si difende bene, e riesce quasi a portare a casa la vittoria, grazie a una straordinaria difesa (Beatrice, Saskia e Asia davvero tutte in forma). Tuttavia una bella doppietta della solita Carlotta evita al Perù la prima sconfitta stagionale.

Despite a tight, close first half, Italy eventually won the first semi-final with ease thanks to three goals from Matteo.

The first chance of the game fell to Rocco from far out on the right touchline and his shot was narrowly over. Oli then forced a good save from Enrico and Matteo fired one wide of the right post. Then on the stroke of half time, Matteo sent half of the defence one way with a body swerve and slotted the ball past a helpless Enrico.

Matteo added two more in the second half after Marco S had had two attempts saved by Ale B and Rocco followed up with two more attempts, the first one saved again by Ale and the second a lob just over the bar.

Benché l'Uruguay abbia lottato con tutte le sue forze, il Brasile ha prevalso grazie alla maggiore qualità tecnica in campo (nonostante fosse assente la stella della squadra, Aurora). The stage was set for a crucial match which would see the elimination of of one of these teams and it was the Turks who came out fighting.
Francesco Gallo opened the scoring and Jakob added a second. England was reeling and looked ready to disappoint yet again in a major tournament. Luke made a good save to keep the score at 2-0 and Darien nearly added another one with his head. Marco almost pulled one back before half time but James made a good save.
The second half opened just like the first half - a goal from Francesco followed by a goal from Jakob. As a contest, the game was over. Marco sent in Ludo for a consolation goal and Francesco combined beautifully with Firat before smacking in a great shot to complete his hat-trick.

SGES red - Ambrit 7-6

Il torneo inizia in salita per le poche ragazze che si presentano all'appello del mister. Dopo pochi minuti l'Ambrit è sotto 4-0, dopo aver fallito diverse occasioni e aver concesso ben 4 volte alle avversarie di andare indisturbate in contropiede sole contro la povera Lena. Il mister si sgola, inserisce Olivia in difesa al posto dell'assonnata Allegra e finalmente qualcosa inizia a girare per il verso giusto: Julia mette al centro un pallone

rasoterra che Elif infila da pochi passi. E' l'inizio di una rimonta spettacolare che porta le nostre ragazze da 0-4 a 6-5, con una tripletta di Julia e una doppietta di Camilla. La St. George's trema, ma invece del colpo di grazia l'Ambrit commette due errori

difensivi clamorosi ed esce sconfitta.

Il risultato dice quasi tutto. A parte il livello differente tra le due squadre, a stupire è la determinazione e l'affiatamento delle ragazze Ambrit. Fraseggi brevi, decine di tiri a rete, pochissimi rischi e un risultato che mette al sicuro almeno la possibilità del pareggio con differenza reti.

Contro le giganti del Napoli, l'Ambrit dà una dimostrazione di forza e tecnica, di buon gioco di squadra e intelligenza nella gestione della partita. Il pieno recupero di Allegra, sempre tenace su ogni pallone, e l'esperienza del capitano Elif, rendono facile il lavoro del mister che può scegliere tra diverse soluzioni e si permette di risparmiare Camilla e Julia per l'ultima, decisiva, partita.

E' la partita decisiva. L'Ambrit e il Napoli non possono sbagliare, sanno che una sconfitta significherebbe l'esclusione dalla finale. All'inizio subito un colpo di scena: falsa partenza, gol del Napoli, ma tutto da rifare: nessuno aveva dato il segnale di partenza, mancava l'arbitro!

Le napoletane sono molto determinate, grandi e muscolose. Spesso usano il corpo al limite del regolamento, rischiando spesso di far male alle nostre "piccole pesti". L'Ambrit sembra un poco intimorita, e va sotto 1-0 su contropiede. Per fortuna la difesa di Olivia e Lena tiene bene, Allegra ed Elif combattono a centrocampo e arriva il pareggio di Camilla. Nel secondo tempo la musica cambia: l'Ambrit gestisce la partita, fa pressing a tutto campo e costringe all'errore le napoletane, che subiscono il 2-1 di Julia: è la qualificazione!

Le squadre con più punti dopo il girone si affrontano nuovamente nella finale. Le ragazze Ambrit sono consapevole che il primo match è stato viziato da errori difensivi, quindi sa che bisogna affrontare la gara con maggiore attenzione e grande tranquillità. Julia porta subito in vantaggio l'Ambrit con un bel tiro incrociato che lascia immobile il portiere, ma la situazione viene ribilanciata da un'uscita avventata di Lena, che lascia la porta sguarnita e consente alle avversarie di pareggiare. Nel secondo tempo ancora Julia firma altre due preziosissime reti, prima di uscire dal campo tra gli applausi del pubblico. La St. George's riapre il match con la rete del 3-2, ma oramai il tempo a disposizione è troppo poco per arrivare ai rigori: l'Ambrit si conferma campione, tra mille emozioni e tanto cuore.

When half-time saw the English three goals up (Marco T, Ludo Gallo, Simone), it looked like the Germans were tamely bowing out of the tournament without putting up a fight.

But then Emilio started to play. And Giovanni. And Marco S. And then it was a different game!

It was just after Simone narrowly missed out on a fourth goal for England when Emilio's determination saw him pull the first goal back for the Germans.

Marco S was winning lots of ball in m idfield at this stage and distributing it well. And Giovanni has changed up a gear, no at least two gears, and he was everywhere... asking for the ball, passing, moving, harrassing defenders and chasing everything. And when he scored, it was a gem: a bullet of a shot hit on the turn between two defenders.

At 3-2, an upset was in the air and Marco S brought it to earth with a well-judged shot which took a slight deflection past Luke.

Then, with only minutes remaining, Marco struck again as he lay on the ground and the ball somehow found its way past Luke again.

Now, instead of a comfortable qualification, England need to avoid defeat in their last match against Turkey.

Il Perù avanza come uno schiacciasassi e frantuma le ultime speranze dell'Uruguay di raggiungere la finalissima. La squadra guidata da Vittoria inizia il match con un ritmo impressionante e va subito in vantaggio con Camilla, sola al centro su ottimo assist di Carlotta (oggi Player of the Match), letteralmente scatenata sulla fascia sinistra. Il raddoppio arriva prima dell'intervallo, con Julia che finalizza al meglio un assist ancora di Carlotta. Ancora lei, Carlotta, firma il 3-0 con un bel sinistro. Debole la reazione dell'Uruguay, affidata alla sola Elif, che cerca di impensierire il Perù con un potente destro deviato in angolo dalla brava Hannah. Il Perù non sembra intimorito e anche nel secondo tempo continua a martellare la difesa uruguaiana, che con l'inserto di Lena tra i pali guadagna in sicurezza e stabilità. A pochi minuti dalla fine un episodio che farà discutere: l'arbitro Calento, fino ad allora ineccepibile, manda negli spogliatoi con un rosso diretto il portiere peruviano, reo di non aver saputo frenare il suo slancio ed essere uscito dall'area con la palla ancora tra le mani. Forse troppo fiscale? Non spetta a noi giudicare...

L'incontro ha lasciato spazio solo per un'ultima, bellissima, rete di Camilla, con un destro al volo che si è infilato a fil di palo alla sinistra dell'incolpevole Lena.

It looked like it might be easy early on when Matteo opened the scoring with a curling shot into the corner but Mattia eqialised for Greece after only three more minutes. The Italians still went in ahead at half-time though when Dariush followed up a deflected free-kick to beat an unlucky Antoine.
The Greeks came storming out in the second half and Max equalised with an unstoppable scorcher along the ground but Matteo scored again when his team needed it.
Luca Cerri had a good chance to equalise but Ale B came out well to smother the shot (keep it low Luca !) and Italy put the icing on the cake with a lovely fourth goal: Oli controlled a difficult ball with his back to the goal, turned away, hit a reverse pass to Dariush who knocked it in off the post and Danilo's head.

Il derby sudamericano va al Brasile, capace di sfruttare al meglio le dimensioni del campo (la partita è stata giocata sul campo piccolo per l'indisponibilità del campo più grande) e la migliore qualità delle palleggiatrici. Il vantaggio arriva con un'azione personale di Aurora, che sola davanti al portiere non sbaglia. Il 2-0, invece, arriva ad opera di Joanna, dopo una lunga serie di occasioni sprecate a tu per tu con Daria (Ancora una volta Player of the Match!). Il secondo tempo, nonstante quqlche timido tentativo di Allegra, poi uscita per infortunio, viene decisa dalla doppietta di Cosima, brava a sfruttare gli assist di Aurora.
Ora per l'Argentina la qualificazione diventa dura, con una sola vittoria su quattro partite disputate...

Spain's fate was sealed in the last minute of this exciting match when Matteo (today's Player of the Match) rounded three players and smashed a thunderous shot past the vainly outstretched arm of the goalkeeper.
Oliver had put the Italians 1-0 up in th first minute, coming from the right to meet a Dariush cross. Oli then set up Matteo - 2-0 - and Matteo scored again after near misses by Dariush and Davide. At 3-0, it seemed downhill all the way and Francesco Sciotti's goal just before half time seemed insignificant.
But Spain had other ideas and their comeback was triggered by Andrea's determination. After Leo had nearly scored from a header, Francesco T got on the end of Francesco S free kick to make it 3-2 and Francesco S grabbed his second goal to make it - incredibly - all square.
But Matteo refused to surrender the win and his last goal was born of determination, power and skill.

BOYS SOCCER: Ambrit 5-5 Vigna Pia

A typically close-fought derby ended with a draw when Vigna Pia equalised with the last kick of the game.
Ambrit went 1-0 when Marco hit Jakob on the break and the Intra-mural's current top scorer slotted it home. Vigna Pia equalised but Ale Z finished off a good passing move involving Marco T and Jakob: 2-1. Jakob then turned provider to set up Marco T for a goal and Ambrit would have been leading at half time but for some sloppy defending. Vigna Pia scored twice to draw level at the break.
Ambrit scored twice early in the second half (Jakob 2) but were then forced to defend for the last 15 minutes. Vigna Pia pulled back to 5-4 and then, right at the death, Marco S made a great save. Unfortunately, as the ball was trickling harmlessly wide, Ale B who was following up stumbled into the ball and deflected into his own net!
Interviewed after the game, Ale B commented: "Vabbe' Mister, t'avevo detto che avrei segnato!"

After a slow start to the tournament, Turkey's second victory takes them out of the danger zone and onto the same points total of today's vanquished rivals.
Darien, today's Player of the Match, was the man who made the difference. He started the move which led to the first goal, passing to Francesco G and then, after Francesco had passed down the line to Jakob, Darien was on hand to turn in his accurate cross from the right. Two good saves by Enrico kept the score to 1-0 at half time.
Darien scored again early in the second half, controlling the ball with his chest and firing an unstoppable shot into the back of the net. With the Germans still reeling, Jakob scored again and James denied Marco S and the score moved to 3-0. Germany had a brief glimmer of hope when Rocco converted a penalty but Jakob snuffed it out with another late goal.

Sotto un velo di pioggia si sono affrontate le due squadre più indietro in classifica e quindi ansiose di fare punti preziosi. La partita ha offerto grande battaglia a centrocampo e qualche buona occasione per l'Uruguay con Elif, le cui conclusioni sono state tutte ben neutralizzate dall'ottima Daria (oggi Player of the Match). Molto buona la prestazione anche del portiere avversario, Lena, che nulla ha potuto però sulla magica punizione di Allegra, a metà del secondo tempo, che è risultata decisiva insaccandosi sul palo più lontano dopo una bella traiettoria a giro.

Da segnalare la prestazione di Valeria, Cyrielle e Isabel, che nelle rispettive difese hanno tenuto a bada la situazione.

In a first half characterised by a complete lack of passing, the only goal was scored by Max when he capitalised on a defensive error.

The standard of play did not increase significantly in the second half; passing was still appalling and defenders were pulled out of position very easily.

The Spanish equalised when an indirect free kick was stopped on the line by Antoine's hand and Francesco S converted the resulting penalty.

The Greeks threw themselves into attack and were soon rewarded. Andrea M had two shots in a row saved by Ale dB, but Luca dV followed up the third time and poked the ball in.

But Spain salvaged a point when Francesco S controlled a ball well, passed to Andrea S and he stayed cool enough to push the ball past Danilo.

With the help of Lena, Line, Saskia and Elif, the teachers took the battle to Grade 7 and emerged victorious.

The game was still tied at half time, thanks largely to Daria in goal.

The entrance of Miss Shamash at half time seemed to galvanize the teachers and the quality of football improved. Miss Teresa was their most dangerous attacker and, when she received a ball wide on the right from a pass by Miss Curria, her acutely angled shot surprised Hannah at the near post: 1-0.

The teachers continued to pour forward. Miss Shamash came through a crunching tackle and passed to Line who made it 2-0 and a third goal was added at the death by Miss Shamash.

Continua la marcia trionfale delle Peruviane che tritano anche il Brasile, orfano di Aurora, ma con gli importanti inserimenti di Emma, Margot e Isabel. Nel primo tempo è il Perù a fare gioco, mentre il Brasile si limita a difendere e accenna a una flebile reazione solo dopo essere andato in svantaggio con il bel gol di Carlotta (oggi Player of the Match), dopo un'azione personale.

Nel momento migliore del Brasile il Perù raddoppia con un errore difensivo che lascia sola davanti al portiere Camilla.

Nella ripresa il Perù passa per la terza volta, su rigore dopo un mani plateale in area del capitano Line, con Olivia, la cui conclusione potente viene intuita ma non trattenuta dalla brava Lavinia. Il gol della bandiera del Brasile arriva con Joanna, a pochi minuti dal termine, troppo tardi per una rimonta. Nel finale altre belle occasioni vengono sventate da Lavinia e dall'ottima Saskia, sempre più difensore di qualità, che merita diversi punti-torneo.

In the absence of record buy Matteo Toti, the risky side of captain Borghese's strategy in the transfer market was exposed by a determined England.

Simone was first on the scoresheet when he took a pass from Ludo and smashed it past Ale B, who might have done better on this occasion. Ludo sent Simone through again but Ale B saved this one and then turned another shot wide from Marco T. From the corner, Ale Z was unlucky not to score with a well-timed header which came back off the bar, but then Simone made it 2-0 with a delicious lob over Ale's head. Marco T made it 3-0 at half time and Oliver was booked.

Marco T struck again early in the second half (4-0) but Player of the Match Luca played a neat one-two with Oliver and scored to give the Italians a glimmer of hope. But Marco T silenced them again - and the watching crowd - with a fantastic goal from the half-way line. Marco T scored again to make it 6-1.

A high-speed, high-scoring, high-intensity match saw the teachers win to keep their 100% record for the season alive... just about!

Francesco S opened the scoring when he got behind the defence and lobbed Enrico. Mr Antonio spurned an easy chance to equalise when he hit the bar from 2 meters out but he made up for it shortly afterwards to make it 1-1.

Early in the second half, Mr Corcoran took a pass from Mr Guarnieri and put the teachers 2-1 up.

but Max responded immediately: 2-2.

Mr Gianluca calmed the teachers nerves with a 'doppietta', the second a tricky back heel at the near post, but Francesco S made the teachers suffer until the last second with the students' third goal.

The Grade 7 team drew their first match 0-0 against New School. Francesco S hit the post but there were few other chances.

In their second game, they found themselves 3-0 down within five minutes but then fought back to 3-1 (Francesco S). Ambrit then hit the post twice and Francesco S blasted an easy chance over before Oliver pulled the score back to 3-2 with a beautiful strike from 20 meters out. Ambrit kept pressing but exposed the defence and ended up losing 4-2 against St. George's.

The Grade 7 team went on to salvage some pride against Marymount, winning 2-1 with an own-goal and another fantastic long-range strike from Oliver.

The Grade 8 team started the day well against Marymount. A Marco S throw-in found Marco T in space and his pass set up Jakob for the opening goal. Ambrit should have gone 2-0 up on numerous occasions but were foiled by some excellent goalkeeping and then they fell to the sucker punch minutes from the end when Marymount equalised. The match finished 1-1.

Their second match, a convincing 3-0 over Castelli, came after a long wait. Jakob scored a goal, sandwiched between two from Marco T who, unfortunately, had to leave before the semi-final against Rome International. RI won the game 1-0 with a shot which was deflected past Ambrit's Player of the Tournament, Enrico Aloi.
